Day One - Already Behind!

My name is Arlene and I have owned my Nikon D80 for over 2 1/2 years. I finally found the right class and the time to learn how to use it. I am married and we have a 4 year old boy what is adamant about the fact that he does not like to get his photo taken! I am excited about this class!

Our homework assignement was to try to photographic a flower with a blurred background. It was suggested we spend 30 minutes a day on this new skill. I spent about 30 minutes after classon Thursday night with some roses I had in my house. They came out dark although I thought I had the setting correct. Today, I had no free time at all....this is why I am on my computer again at 12:30am! I will pray for clear skies tomorrow and I will find the hour I need to catch up!

  1. You'll be fine Arlene ... just keep pushing, no matter the wheather. You know your camera is capable of adding as much as you want. So things shouldn't be too dark. (Just keep slowing the shutter). Expect blurry photos, just as was discussed since these are long exposure. Just try to get the lighting right. And again, if you're looking for blurry backgrounds, get very, very close, find a small subject with background that's far away.

    Good luck!
